Gaelic football has been played in Moylagh in some form since the GAA was founded. Moylagh GFC was first officially affiliated from 1947 to 1956. From 1957 to 1961 Moylagh and Oldcastle briefly amalgamated as Millbrook. Moylagh GFC reformed in 1962 and has had its own team since. The football team’s first major success came by clinching the 1975 Intermediate championship. Moylagh came close to JFC glory in 1999 only to be denied by St.Paul’s in the final. Moylagh’s second team captured the Junior D championship in 2006.
A hurling club has existed in Moylagh since 1974. Years of tireless work led to under-age success in the late 1990′s & early 2000′s which ultimately culminated in Moylagh’s first Junior Hurling Championship in 2013.
Moylagh Ladies football club was established in 1977 and enjoyed a highly successfully early life with their first of many Championships in 1979. While not at the heady heights of those early days Moylagh’s ladies team remains highly competitive to this day with their latest glory coming in the 2007 Feis Shield.
Last year 2013 saw the official amalgamation of Moylagh ladies and men’s football and hurling clubs under one club, Moylagh GAA.
