Gathering of Irish Officers

A gathering of Meath Irish and Cultural Officers was held on Tuesday 9th October in Dunganny. Several clubs were in attendance with the hope of improving this going forward.

Officers on the night were treated to a performance of our young musicians from Trim GAA who reached the Leinster Scór na nÓg Final in the Wexford Opera House last year while tea, coffee and refreshments were served.

Following on from this our Meath GAA Irish and Cultural Officer Denise Morgan gave an informative presentation on ‘Getting into Scór’. She explained how to get it started in clubs through the use of a ten point plan. A copy of this presentation along with the Scór rulebook will be distributed to club secretaries in the coming days. Denise commented on how ‘Scór isn’t about the medals you win but the people you meet and the friends you make along the way. 

We were delighted to also have the Louth Cultural Officer in attendance who is aiming to get Scór up and running in our neighbouring county. We were honoured that Catherine Daly chairperson of Leinster Scór could be with us on the night and spoke highly about how the revival of Scór in Meath had lead to All Ireland success last year.

We then heard from Frank and Una from Glór na nGael who spoke about the Seosamh Mhic Dhonncha Funding that is available to clubs annually for the promotion of our language and culture within them. Frank commented on how St. Colmcilles GAA had received a silver medal last year for the promotion of our language with a few more clubs having been awarded a bronze medal. He commented on how he hopes this tradition in Meath continues long into the future.
