On November 9th 2018 a large crowd gathered for the Meath Scór na nÓg County Finals in Oldcastle Show Hall.
It was a great success with representatives from the clubs of Meath taking part in all disciplines including Céilí Dancing, Solo Singing, Recitation, Ballad Groups, Instrumental Music, Stage Presentation, and Set Dancing. The atmosphere in the hall was electric providing plenty of support for the young people involved.
The night was opened by a warm welcome from Meath Irish and Cultural Officer Denise Morgan who commented on the success of Scór since its revival last year including All-Ireland success in the recitation competition. Our master of ceremonies for the night was Agnes McNally Fox from Skryne who did a fantastic job in leading the events of the night in style.
The winners on the night were as follows:
Céilí Dancing – Oldcastle
Solo Singing – St. Ultan’s
Recitation – Oldcastle
Ballad Group – Oldcastle
Stage Presentation – St. Colmcille’s
Instrumental Music – Trim
Set Dancing – St. Ultan’s
The night finished up with the presentation of medals from Peter O Halloran, County Chairperson and a great supporter of Scór and all cultural events throughout the county.
A raffle was also held with plenty of good prizes on offer including a sponsored Meath Jacket from the Meath County Committee and a voucher for Maguire’s Restaurant on The Hill Of Tara.
The Scór Tráth na gCeist (quiz) at both under and over 17 levels will take place on Saturday 19th January, under 17 quiz beginning at 6 pm followed by the over 17 quiz at 8 pm. We are asking as many clubs as possible in the county to take part so if you are interested do not hesitate in contacting your club secretary.
The Tráth na gCeist will be followed by the over 17 Céilí Dancing, solo singing, recitation, ballad group, stage presentation, instrumental music and set dancing competitions in the springtime. The venue and date for these competitions will be released very shortly.
Meath GAA Cultural and Scór Committees would like to thank all in Oldcastle who made the night such a success, Agnes our master of ceremonies for the evening, parents, and mentors of all the participants involved, all who donated raffle prizes and Meath GAA Management Committee for sponsoring the refreshments on the night.
The winning participants will progress to the Leinster Semi-Final which will also be held in Oldcastle Show Hall on the 8th December at 2 pm.
Long may the revived tradition of Scór continue throughout the county going forward. An Mhí Abú!
